How Chemical Peels Work

We perform all chemical peels in-office for your comfort and convenience. They involve applying a chemical solution to your skin, which can vary in strength and ingredients depending on your skin type and condition. The chemical solution will cause the outer layers of skin to peel off over the next few days, revealing the new and improved skin underneath.

We group our chemical peel services into three types: superficial, medium, and deep. Each type has different benefits, risks, and recovery times. Some of the chemical peels we offer include:

This superficial peel uses alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) to gently exfoliate the skin and improve its texture, tone, and brightness. It can also reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne, and hyperpigmentation.

Salicylic Acid is another type of superficial peel that combats acne where it begins—in the pores, where dead skin, oil, and bacteria can build. It loosens and breaks down these clogs so they can be more easily removed.

TCA is a medium peel that penetrates deeper into the skin and removes more layers of damaged skin cells. It can also treat moderate to severe wrinkles, sun damage, age spots, hyperpigmentation, and acne scars.

Phenol peels use a strong acid to achieve the most dramatic results. It can treat severe wrinkles, sun damage, age spots, hyperpigmentation, and precancerous growths.

What to Expect During Your Chemical Peel:

Your dermatologist will clean the area to be treated with an antiseptic solution and mark the injection site with a pencil. Using a fine needle, they will inject a small amount of cortisone solution into the acne lesion. The injection may cause a slight pinch or sting, but it will be over quickly.

Post-treatment instructions vary pending on the type of chemical peel you choose. AHA peels require little to no recovery time. With deeper peels like TCA or phenol, we may apply petroleum jelly or a waterproof adhesive tape to protect the new skin. Our team will guide you through the post-peel process to ensure your recovery time is as swift and pain-free as possible.
