We offer personalized HS treatment plans designed to meet each patient’s unique needs. Dr. John Frew a world-renowned HS expert took up the gauntlet following Dr. Scheinfeld’s untimely departure from the practice; now, all NSS Dermatology providers regularly incorporate the latest medical advances in HS diagnosis and treatment to provide answers for patients and the most effective solutions to our patients for managing HS symptoms and preventing or mitigating flare-ups.

What are The Symptoms Of Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS)?

The symptoms of HS vary depending on the stage and severity of the condition. They may last for months or years if not treated. The symptoms may include:

  • Redness, swelling, or tenderness in the affected areas.

  • Painful lumps or bumps that can grow larger and deeper over time.

  • Abscesses or boils that can burst and drain pus or blood.

  • Scars or skin changes that can limit your movement or affect your appearance.

  • Sinus tracts or tunnels that can connect the lumps under the skin.

  • Odor or itching in the affected areas.

  • Fever or fatigue if you have an infection.

The Three Stages Of Hidradenitis Suppurativa

  • Stage 1: Solitary or multiple isolated abscess formations without scarring or sinus tracts (tunnels of HS that are under the skin and may be far more difficult to treat).

  • Stage 2: Recurrent abscesses often filled with pus, may be single or multiple, some may be widely separated, with sinus tract formation.

  • Stage 3: Broadly spread abscesses with various interconnected sinus tracts.

What to Expect During Your HS Treatment

We will schedule a consultation with you to determine the severity of your HS and provide proper treatment. The stage of your hidradenitis suppurativa will determine the treatment plan we create. Typical treatment includes:

  • Injections of Intralesional Kenalog injections (cortisone injections) low dose

  • Immunosuppressants

  • Anti-inflammatory medicationsHair removal by laser in combination with other therapies

  • Referral to surgical specialists forl excision of tissue involved with HS in extreme cases

Am I a Good Candidate for HS Treatment?

If you are experiencing symptoms of HS, such as recurrent painful nodules or abscesses, typically beginning in areas like the armpits, groin, or buttocks, but occurring anywhere on the body, thenyou may be a good candidate for our HS treatment. Our dermatologists will assess your condition during a consultation and recommend the most suitable treatment options.
